New Finished Painting and LA trip

Personal piece finished in between projects!  Went through many many changes.  The painting started as a nomadic female warrior riding a kangaroo rat reptile thing and ended with rival demon clans waging war in hell!!  I blame it on the fact I painted a percentage of it around the time of Halloween.

It was a tediously frustrating blast to paint and I learned a bunch along the way!

On another note If you would like to see some pics from my recent LA trip sponsored by Ubisoft you can find them on my facebook art page

Thanks for the views

Been a while so here is a face! 1 hour study in photoshop.  Happy to say I have some new stuff to post. However, I have quite a to do list going on today so im shooting for getting them up tonight but will see how it goes!

Die young

And thou art dead, as young and fair
As aught of mortal birth;
And form so soft, and charms so rare,
Too soon return'd to Earth!

Skull study

Today's study went a little longer than I attended, ball park time 2 hours and some change.  To many details that I had a hard time saying no to.

Quick hour study just working on my chops and trying to figure out this whole value thing people keep talking about!  Forgot how much I enjoyed doing still lives by far the most relaxing thing you can experience, well besides maby spending a week at the lake sketching monsters and such (image below).

Until next time!

Mastercopy 01

Master copy watercolor.  Lots of fun, been a long while sense I have even touched my traditional paints.  Nice to get my hands dirty again and not have to stare at a screen!

Monday, June 4, 2012

Doing my best to make time for more observational sketching.  The bike was done during my lunch break at dire and the animals from a long overdue trip to the zoo.  Working on my line economy so dropped the pencil and went for the copics an a whiteout marker on a toned sketchbook.

Been a good while sense Ive gotten into photoslop, 3 hour Armour study just tryin to remember how to paint.

Finally broke down and bought a moleskin.  Must admit they are pretty nice.  My goal for this bad boy is to have it filled by the end of summer.  Page 1 inspired by a not so great website I happened to stumble across while on one of my usual Google reference grabs.  May speak to my ignorance but I didn't realize the Knights Party was still active...  To top it off they sell T-shirts...  Awesome! Anyways this realization lead to this sketch set place in a destopian alternate universe in which clans, gangs, and religious cults wage an epic turf war across the galaxy, battling over bombed out asteroid fields and crater filled moons!!!  Or as I call it (molepost1).  More to come!

Getting ready for the Grad Show

So if you have no plans this friday and are in the Colorado area you should come check out the grad show on the 13th from 5-8 at the phillip steele gallery lots of talented individuals graduating this semester should be a good time.  Also you can pick up some loot.  Ill be handing out stickers biz cards and mini sketchbooks limited supply of 52 each with an original spot illustration on the cover, some of them or actually ok, so get their early and grab some shit!

With finals and Grad-show around the corner pretty busy is an understatement, but heres some post that more or less some up what's been going on in my life these days

Starting from the top, thats the guy who totaled my car on I25.  The second drawing is in honor of the new bro in the fam my nephew Conway Dickens.  And finally the drawing at the bottom is a tribute to Jean Giraud who passed away a month ago.

Coffe shop Succubi

Been a good while sense I have made a post so here ya go!  So I blame these graphic horrific drawings on a bad combination of too much coffee and far to many sweet old ladies in a cramped environment.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I do

Oh One last thing, if its not to late start from the bottom and work your way up posted out of order.  My bad...

succubus take 3

This one is anatomically whack, so sorry bout that, and apparently colored pencil is impossible to erase who would have guessed!  However, despite its many flaws I do enjoy the rather phallic head design on this one.

succubus take 2

Again working abstractly.  Not to thrilled about this design but I like the head ornaments, and always been a fan of high healed crow feet appendages!  Tried incorporating some black outine marker work to pop out the silhouette, looks good when done correctly but I feel I deff dropped the ball on this one.  Better luck next year.

Why I shouldnt draw without something in mind

Stressed from school so I tried a more abstract approach to generating ideas.  Clear your head and start drawing shapes and see what happens, picked up from Carlos Huante who has been a big inspiration for me on this next project which deals with Succubuses or succubi whatever.  Very enjoyable yet disturbing to do but glad i got this one out of my system.  Strong believer in embracing the strange and bizarre in order to keep your sanity!  More to come

Also check out Huante's work here

speed paint Head

Hour and three min job.  Warmin up before I start my environment which deals with similar subject matter.

speed paint tank

Not as detailed as I would have liked but I kind of enjoy its graphic quality. I spent a good percentage of the hour on perspective, which could still use some work, a tad on the janky side.  Perspective has always been a weakness of mine from the simple to the complex, so I will most likely be doing a number of these in the future.
